Day 12 Havre to Malta, MT the windy way

Whoaa that was a grind. As it turns out day 12 has been the hardest on team THF. That quartering headwind really took its toll, at mile 22 Bill had to throw in the towel for the day. His Achilles tendon has been bothersome since the beginning and the last few days it has been really acting up. We decided to run him to the doctor in Malta and then I drove back towards Havre to meet back up with Dick who had been pedaling his way towards Malta. All this time the wind had been climbing up in to the twenties, the teams average for the day was down to 13.6mph, the team had been averaging around 17mph. I sat in the comfort of the van as Dick grinded away the miles, having lost his teammate and windbreak I decided to see if I could help. With the roads being vary low on traffic I was able to roll down the highway at about 17 mph with Dick just behind the driver side door. Not conventional, but you can see the relief in Dick's face.

Doctors orders, Bill is going to take three days off and then, more then get back into the ride. The doc gave him two cortisone shots and told him to keep heat on his ankle. Which means I get to go pedaling, not to sure if this is a good idea, considering I parked my bike last fall after completing my coast to coast and haven’t ridden since. There is sure to be some sore muscles tomorrow and more than likely a shorter blog entry. Maybe I can talk Bill into blogging.

On the news front, Kyle from The Western News informed us that we Team THF will be gracing the front page with a photo and story; you should be able to see that online tomorrow night at http://www.thewesternnews.com/.

We would also like to thank Paula of the Sportsman Motel in Malta for sponsoring the guys for the night, after day like this we are all looking forward to a good nights sleep.
